“Hopefully, people will be able to afford to pay off these fines,” he said. Abruzzo expects this year’s event to help more people. The figure dropped off in 2020 because of COVID but rebounded last year. According to a 2019 report from The Fines and Fees Justice Center, a national advocacy group, nearly 2 million Florida drivers had their licenses suspended because of unpaid fines and fees during 2017.Īfter a five-year absence, Operation Green Light returned in 2019 when 1,381 people were cleared to have their licenses reinstated.
